Instruction Goal
To teach students advanced tools required for designing and developing engineering solutions using intellectual property as a starting point to achieve their goals faster, in a more innovative fashion, andto avoid infringement of existing patents.
Outcomes
After completion of this course, students should be able to:
- Prepare responses to novelty rejections with or without inherency assertions.
- Prepare responses to obviousness rejections
- Prepare pre-appeal brief and a request for review for single-item appeals
- Prepare full appeal brief
- Prepare responses for after final pilot program 2.0
- Prepare responses for complex restriction requirements
- Prepare responses to subject matter eligibility rejections
- Learn how to use knowledge of prior art to transform an idea that is not eligible for patent protection to something that is
- Learn how to write patent applications with a strategy toward prosecution
- Prepare patent applications and file the same with the patent and trademark office
